Yes. Because a cash food allowance is legally part of wages, payment in lieu of notice must equal one full month of Gross Monthly Wage. If you provide free food, notice pay is based on the Basic Monthly Wage.

Q2: Can I pay a daily grocery allowance of HK$40 instead of the monthly food rate?

No. The law requires you to pay the full statutory monthly food allowance (currently HK$1,236) if free food is not provided. Paying a daily rate that adds up to less than the statutory monthly minimum constitutes wage underpayment.

Q3: My helper is taking two weeks of unpaid personal leave. Do I deduct using ADW or the Mid-Month formula?

Use the Mid-Month formula. Calculate the daily wage for that specific calendar month and multiply it by the number of unpaid days.
